“I Used to Think Data Analysis Was Just About Dashboards” — Kehinde on Life as a Data Intern at SunFi
Meet Ayodeji Kehinde, the calm, horror-movie-loving data analyst who’s quietly turning numbers into insights at SunFi.
We sat with her to talk about what has surprised her most about data analysis, the lessons that are reshaping her career, and why SunFi’s team culture stands out to her.
Here’s what she shared with us.
So Kehinde, tell us a little about yourself and what made you interested in SunFi.
My name is Ayodeji Kehinde, and I’m a Data Analyst Intern at SunFi. I’ve always been passionate about data analysis .I love how messy data can be transformed into meaningful insights that drive impactful business decisions.
I enjoy spotting opportunities and finding data-driven solutions that help stakeholders make informed choices.
I’d describe myself as calm and quiet. I love being indoors, watching horror movies, or listening to different kinds of music. And when I’m not analyzing data, I’m sewing, it lets me express my creativity in another way.
What pulled me to SunFi was the chance to grow and advance my career in data analysis while contributing to real-world business problems that actually make an impact. I was also drawn to SunFi’s mission of making clean energy more accessible to Nigerians. It’s inspiring to be part of a company that’s driving meaningful change and I’m proud to contribute to that vision.
How has this internship shaped the way you think about your career?
This internship has completely changed how I think about my career. I’ve learned the importance of accountability and taking ownership that growth comes from being fully responsible for your work.
It’s taught me to be the rider of my own journey, to face challenges with a problem-solving mindset, and to think more innovatively. Taking ownership has made me more proactive and confident in my abilities. It keeps me pushing to improve, think creatively, and deliver meaningful results.
Basically, I’ve learned that being self-driven is the key to becoming a better version of myself.
Now, what’s something you’ve learned at SunFi that you don’t think you could have learned anywhere else?
Definitely accountability and ownership. At SunFi, you’re encouraged to take full responsibility for your tasks, and that pushes you to think critically, solve problems independently, and come up with innovative solutions.
It’s not just about finishing tasks, it's about understanding the why behind them and contributing meaningfully to the team’s goals. That mindset shift has been huge for me.
That’s so beautiful to see. I’m curious about what a typical day in your role looks like?
A typical day for me is pretty simple. I start my morning early, plan out my priorities, and grab breakfast, usually just coffee.
Once I’m at my desk, I get into focus mode. I spend most of the day working on my tasks while listening to the Rotten Mango podcast (because total silence isn’t really my thing). I check in with the team when needed, and before I wrap up, I like to review what I’ve done and jot down notes for the next day.
Speaking about your team, What has been the most surprising thing you discovered about working in the Data Team?
There are so many misconceptions about data analysis. A lot of people think it’s just about creating pretty dashboards and honestly, I used to think that too.
But after joining the data team, I quickly realized that dashboards make up only about 5–10% of the actual work. The real magic is in ensuring data integrity and accuracy. Without reliable data, even the most beautiful dashboard is basically useless.
Let's talk about your moments. Are there any you’re most proud of so far?
I’m really proud of organizing a virtual send-off party for one of the interns. It was so fulfilling to see everyone laughing, playing games, and just having fun.
Beyond the fun, it was also a beautiful bonding moment for the team. We all got to know each other a little better.
Awww that must have felt so good. What’s a fun fact that your colleagues don’t know about you?
A fun fact? I love horror movies. It’s my go-to genre whenever I want to relax after a long week.
If there’s one thing outsiders wouldn’t believe about the SunFi team culture, what do you think it is?.
Every voice matters here. Ideas are genuinely listened to and taken seriously. There’s this culture of appreciation, and efforts are recognized and celebrated. It’s one of those workplaces where you actually feel seen, heard, and motivated to give your best.
As she continues her journey, one thing’s clear: Kehinde isn’t just analyzing data, she’s making an impact.
And this is just the beginning,
We’ll be sitting down with more brilliant minds across SunFi, from interns to managers to hear their stories, lessons, and little moments that make SunFi what it is. Stay tuned, you won’t want to miss the next one.
